Plan 01

1 day in Malda

  1. 01

Day 1: Pandua morning, Gaur afternoon

Leave early by car for Pandua and spend the first two hours at the Adina Mosque, then step across to the Eklakhi Mausoleum and the Qutb Shahi Mosque. Return to town for lunch and a rest through the hottest hours. In the afternoon drive south to Gaur for the Dakhil Darwaza and Firoz Minar, and finish at the Qadam Rasul Mosque if time allows.

Qutb Shahi Mosque20 minutesEasyMorning, November to February
Dakhil Darwaza20–30 minutesEasyEarly morning or late afternoon light, November to February
Firoz Minar20 minutesEasyMorning light, November to February
Qadam Rasul Mosque20–30 minutesEasyMorning or late afternoon, November to February

Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.

With parents at Adina Mosque: The site is large and mostly level, but paths are uneven in places and there is very little shade or seating in the open courtyard. Older visitors do best going early, carrying water and a hat, and sticking to the main colonnade rather than the full perimeter.

Guides for the stops on these routes

Pacing

Pacing a Malda trip for parents and children

  • Start sightseeing by 7 or 8 am; the ruins have little shade and the sun is strong from mid-morning.
  • Hire a car with a driver for the whole day so you can rest in the vehicle between sights and avoid long walks.
  • The Eklakhi Mausoleum, Qutb Shahi Mosque and Qadam Rasul Mosque are the shortest, most level stops; Adina Mosque and Baro Sona need more walking.
  • Carry water, a hat, sunscreen and a photo ID; the Baro Sona Masjid is close to the border and ID is useful.
  • Dress modestly at the Chhoti Dargah and other active shrines, and carry socks for hot paving.
  • Avoid the monsoon months from June to September, when sites are muddy and roads can flood.
