Easiest first
Places in Palghar sorted by walking effort
Easy on the legs (4)
- Kelve Fort (Places to visit · About 1 hour) — The beach is flat and the fort stands among trees on sand, but walking on soft sand is tiring for some. Shade from the casuarinas helps, though seating is limited and there are few facilities close by.
- Kelwa Beach and Shitla Devi Temple (Places to visit · Half a day) — The beach is flat but sand is soft, and shade is intermittent. Basic snack stalls are available, but toilets and seating are limited. Older visitors can enjoy the casuarina shade and the temple.
- Shirgaon Fort (Places to visit · 1 to 1.5 hours) — The fort is compact and mostly level, with sturdy walls and bastions, so most visitors can walk it. Shade inside is limited and there is little seating. A short, easy visit.
- Tarapur Fort (Places to visit · 45 minutes to 1 hour) — The fort is small and mostly level, but facilities and shade are limited. The condition of the interior is not well documented, so go prepared for uneven ground.
Some walking — plan a break (1)
- Kohoj Fort (Places to visit · Most of a day: about 2.5 hours up, time on the fort, then the descent) — The climb is a steady, fairly steep 2.5 hours on a rough path with little shade, and there is no accommodation on top. Older travellers should not attempt it. They can drive along the Manor to Wada road, where the fort and the lake at its foot are clearly visible, while others climb.
Lots of walking or steps — choose carefully (1)
- Asheri Fort (Asherigad) (Places to visit · Half a day) — The trek is steep and exposed, with a narrow final climb and little shade or seating. It is not recommended for older travellers or anyone with knee or breathing problems.
