Day 1: South of the island
Start at Phu Quoc Prison in the morning, before the heat builds. Then spend the middle of the day at Sao Beach and have lunch there. In the late afternoon ride the Hon Thom cable car if the weather is clear, and return to Duong Dong for the night market.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Phu Quoc Prison (Coconut Tree Prison) About 1 hour Moderate Morning, to avoid the heat Sao Beach (Bai Sao) Half a day Easy December to March, on a weekday morning Hon Thom Cable Car Half a day with the island visit Easy Morning for clearer air and fewer crowds Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.
With parents at Phu Quoc Prison (Coconut Tree Prison): The site is spread over open ground with little shade, so an older visitor will find the heat tiring and the paths uneven in places. Some displays are outdoors. A hat, water and a slow pace help; there is usually somewhere to sit near the entrance, but confirm on arrival.
