Pace: Mehao Wildlife Sanctuary involves a lot of walking or steps — do it early, and keep the rest of the day light.

With parents at Mehao Wildlife Sanctuary: Most useful trails are on foot and can be steep and slippery, with no seating and few facilities. Older visitors should confine themselves to the lake's lower approaches and not attempt the long trek.

Pacing

Pacing a Roing trip for parents and children

  • Hire a car and driver; the main sights are 3 to 56 km apart on mountain roads.
  • Choose the cool months, October to March, and avoid the heavy rains from May to September.
  • Carry your Inner Line Permit and a copy of your medicines; hospitals are limited.
  • Keep Mayodia for a settled-weather day and leave early.
  • Skip the long Mehao trek and visit the lake approaches instead.
  • Carry water and snacks on every outing; facilities are sparse.
