How to reach Tezpur by air

Tezpur Airport (TEZ) at Salonibari is about 8 km from the centre but is an Indian Air Force base with limited scheduled flights, so check current services. Guwahati (GAU) is the main gateway, about 180 to 200 km and roughly four hours by road.

How to reach Tezpur by train

Dekargaon (DKGN), about 10 km from the city and near the airport, is the closest station. Rangapara North Junction (RPAN) in the same district is a larger railhead on the Northeast Frontier Railway. Check current services before planning around them.

How to reach Tezpur by road

From Guwahati, roads run through Nagaon via NH37 and NH37A (about 198 km) or via NH52 through Mangaldoi and Dhekiajuli (about 181 km). Buses link Tezpur with Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Itanagar and other towns.

Getting around Tezpur

A private car with a driver is the best way to reach the western ruins, temples and Nameri. Autos and local taxis work within town; agree fares before setting off.

For parents and senior travellers

Easy transfers to and in Tezpur

  • Choose a hotel with a lift or ground-floor rooms and easy car access; central streets can be busy and uneven.
  • Avoid April to September if you can; heavy humidity and rain make walking tiring and roads slow.
  • Take a car and driver for the day, as the western ruins and temples are spread out and not well signed.
  • For Nameri, choose a gentle raft trip or a short guided walk, and start early, because the road is bumpy.
  • Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
  • Pre-book the pickup from the airport or station, so nobody has to negotiate with drivers after a long journey.
  • Choose arrivals in daylight where you can, and keep the first afternoon free to rest.
