Area by area

Tezpur neighbourhoods compared

  1. 01

    Central Tezpur

Best for: Travellers who want restaurants and easy access to Agnigarh and the lakes

Good to know: Staying near the town centre, around Jonaki Road and the older bazaar streets, keeps most evening options within a short ride. Traffic and noise are the trade-offs, so ask about lifts and ground-floor rooms if travelling with older relatives.

Sights in this area: Agnigarh Hill, Chitralekha Udyan (Cole Park), Padum Pukhuri, Tezpur Colonial Quarter Walk

  2. 02

Near Cole Park and Padum Pukhuri

Best for: Families who want calm evenings by the water

Good to know: Close to the two lakeside parks and a short drive to Agnigarh. Good for easy walks, but check vehicle access and the distance to meals.

  3. 03

    Salonibari and Dekargaon side

Best for: Travellers arriving by air or rail, or leaving early for Nameri

Good to know: The airport at Salonibari and Dekargaon railway station lie on this side of town, roughly 8 to 10 km from the centre. Convenient for early starts, though you will travel into town for sights.

  4. 04

    Nameri forest camps

Best for: Birdwatchers and travellers who want a night in the forest

Good to know: Eco camps and lodges near the park gate, such as the camp at Potasali, give an early start for rafting and walks. Facilities are basic, so confirm bookings, tariffs and road access in advance.

Before you book

What to check when booking for older travellers

  • Ask for a lift, or a ground-floor room — many heritage hotels have steps and no lift.
  • Check how far the hotel is from the sights you care about, in minutes by road, not kilometres.
  • Prefer free cancellation until close to the date, in case plans or health change.
  • Look for 24-hour reception, in-house dining and a doctor-on-call policy.
  • Read recent reviews for noise — old-city streets and wedding venues can be loud late.
