Before you go
Todgarh with elderly parents: what to know
- Confirm forest department permission and rest-house availability well before you travel.
- Hire a car with a driver who knows the route, and expect winding, narrow roads.
- Carry water, regular medicines and snacks, because there are no shops or clinics near the shrine and falls.
- Wear closed shoes with a good grip for the Bheelberi trail and forest tracks.
- Visit between November and February. Avoid the monsoon if you dislike slippery paths and muddy tracks.
- Choose a hotel in Beawar or Ajmer if you need a lift, steady power and a nearby hospital.

Practical tips for Todgarh
- Permissions. Notify the forest department well ahead. Contacts are with the forest officers of Rajsamand, Ajmer or Pali; do not assume you can simply turn up and enter.
- Heat. April to June is very hot, with May highs above 40 degrees in the nearby Ajmer record. Do forest walks at dawn and dusk and rest through the day.
- Roads. The Katar Ghati road to Dudhaleshwar winds for about 4 km, and tracks inside the forest are rough. Use a driver used to hill roads.
- Water and food. Carry water, snacks and any regular medicines. There are no shops or clinics inside the sanctuary.
- Clothing. Wear dull-coloured clothing, full sleeves and sturdy shoes. Avoid perfume, and carry a light jacket for winter evenings.
- Wildlife behaviour. Animals are not habituated to visitors. Keep quiet, stay in the vehicle or on the track, and follow the guide. Never approach a leopard or sloth bear.
- Mobile signal. Network can drop inside the forest. Share your plan with your driver and the forest staff, and download maps beforehand.
