    Dawki Suspension Bridge

A steel suspension bridge over the Umngot, built in 1932, and the best easy viewpoint over the boats and the river bend. It is a short stop that rewards a walk across.

    Time needed
    20–40 minutes
    Walking
    Easy
    Best time
Morning or late afternoon, when light is softer and crowds are thinner
    Tickets
Free to walk; there is no known ticket, though local arrangements can change. Do not stop vehicles on the carriageway, and keep to the side when traffic passes.

    Dawki–Tamabil Border Post

Dawki is a working Integrated Check Post facing Tamabil in Bangladesh, mostly busy with coal trucks and trade rather than sightseeing. It adds context to the river.

    Walking
    Easy
    Best time
Daytime; trucks are most visible in the working hours

Neighbourhoods in Dawki

  1. 04

    Shnongpdeng

A quiet river village about 8 km upriver of Dawki, known for riverside camping, kayaking, snorkelling and a calmer stretch of the Umngot than the busy jetty.

    Time needed
Half a day; overnight is better
    Walking
    Moderate
    Best time
November to March, when the water is clear and dry
    Tickets
There is no single ticket. Camps, kayak and snorkelling operators set their own prices, so agree fees, safety gear and inclusions before you start, and ask about guides for water activities.

Experiences in Dawki

  1. 05

    Umngot River Boating

A short ride on the Umngot, whose water is clear enough in the dry months that the boats seem to hover above the riverbed. It is the reason most people come to Dawki.

    Time needed
    30–60 minutes on the water
    Walking
    Easy
    Best time
November to March, mid-morning to early afternoon when the light reaches the riverbed
    Tickets
Boats are priced per boat, not per person. Fares and rules are set locally and change, so confirm the price and the duration at the jetty before you board. Life jackets are usually offered; wear one.
