Day 1: Gandhi in the morning, Akshardham at dusk
Start at Dandi Kutir in Sector 13 when it opens (it is closed on Mondays) and spend about two hours with its audio-visual galleries. Walk or drive to the Mahatma Mandir exterior for a look at the convention centre. Take a long lunch and rest at your hotel. Reach Swaminarayan Akshardham in the late afternoon, leaving phones and cameras in the cloakroom, and see the temple and exhibitions. If you plan to stay for the evening water show, buy tickets early and finish with dinner at the on-site food court or in town.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Mahatma Mandir 30–45 minutes from outside Easy Morning or late afternoon for photographs; any season Swaminarayan Akshardham 3–4 hours including security and the water show Moderate Late afternoon into the evening; November to February is most comfortable Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.
With parents at Swaminarayan Akshardham: The complex is large and mostly level, but you will walk long distances, queue through security and stand for darshan. Free wheelchairs are offered at the entrance for the elderly and others who need them. Seating exists in places, so pace yourself and avoid the midday heat.

Day 2: Sabarmati and the district
Spend the morning at Indroda Dinosaur and Fossil Park, which is easiest before the heat builds, then drive to Sant Sarovar for a short, shaded walk by the water. After lunch, go to the Trimandir at Adalaj. If you have energy left, finish with a drive through GIFT City to see the planned financial district.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Indroda Dinosaur and Fossil Park 3–4 hours Moderate Early morning, November to February Sant Sarovar 45–60 minutes Easy Morning or late afternoon; October to March GIFT City 1–2 hours by car Easy Weekday daytime, when offices are busy Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.

Guides for the stops on these routes
Pacing
Pacing a Gandhinagar trip for parents and children
- Visit Akshardham on a weekday afternoon when queues are shorter; leave phones, cameras and bags in the free cloakroom, and ask for a wheelchair at the entrance if walking the large complex is tiring.
- Dress modestly for temples: shoulders, chest and knees covered at Akshardham, and sensible dress at Trimandir and Rupal. Shoes come off, so carry socks for hot paving.
- Plan one big sight in the morning, a rest after lunch and Akshardham or a gentle walk in the evening. Gandhinagar's afternoons are hot from March to October.
- Use a hired car or app cab for the day. Sights are spread across sectors and the district, and there is little shade on long walks between them.
- Check closing days. Akshardham and Dandi Kutir are closed on Mondays, so keep Monday for Indroda, Sant Sarovar or a rest.
- Avoid Rupal on the ninth day of Navratri unless you want the festival crowd; ordinary days are far quieter.
