Why it matters
Why Zen Beach and Srithanu is worth your time
Zen Beach captures the wellness-and-sunset side of Koh Phangan, quieter than Haad Rin and more social than the north. It is a place to see how the island has built a community around yoga and plant-based food.
For older travellers, it is better as an early evening visit than a beach day, because the sand is soft and the tide changes the shoreline. For vegetarians, it is the easiest food area on the island.

How to experience it
Zen Beach is a small sandy cove in Srithanu, about 8 km or 20 minutes from Thong Sala pier. It faces west, so people gather from about 16:30 to 17:00 and the crowd peaks between 17:30 and 18:30. Swim at mid to high tide, when the water is calm; at low tide the sea recedes over rocks and urchins, so wear water shoes.
Friday has a sunset drum circle and Saturday has a free DJ session at the beach bar. There are no public sunbeds or toilets, and the lane is unpaved and unlit, so bring a torch for walking back.
Mama Market, about 500 m away, is the evening food court with many vegan stalls. Srithanu is the centre of the island's yoga community, so mornings can be quiet and active.
