Plan 01
1 day in Nagarhole
- 01
Day 1: One safari and a river stop
Drive from Mysuru to Hunsur early and reach the Veeranahosahalli gate at least 30 minutes before your booked morning slot, carrying photo ID. After the safari, take a late breakfast and a rest. If time allows, glance at the Lakshmanatirtha river from the bridges in Hunsur on the way back, and keep the evening for the return drive in daylight.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Lakshmanatirtha River Depends on the stretch: 15 minutes at Hunsur, a morning at Irpu Easy After monsoon for flow; dry season for animals gathering near water Pace: All the stops today are easy on the legs.
Plan 02
2 days in Nagarhole
- 01
Day 1: Veeranahosahalli safari
Reach the northern gate for a morning safari, with an hour on arrival for check-in. Rest through the midday heat, then join the late-afternoon slot if available, or use the time for birdwatching near your lodge.
- 02
Day 2: Kodagu side and Irpu Falls
Drive towards south Kodagu. Visit Irpu Falls and the Rameshwara temple on the river bank, with time for the walk and a long rest. If you want a second safari, choose the Nanachi gate and check the slot and booking status first.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Irpu Falls (Lakshmana Tirtha Falls) 2 to 3 hours including the walk and a rest Moderate Monsoon and just after, roughly July to December; dry season flow is thinner Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.
With parents at Irpu Falls (Lakshmana Tirtha Falls): The approach involves a walk on a forest path with steps, which can be slippery when wet. Handrails and benches are not guaranteed. Older visitors may prefer to stop at the lower stretch and temple, wear shoes with grip and carry an umbrella.

Guides for the stops on these routes
Pacing
Pacing a Nagarhole trip for parents and children
- Choose slots when you are rested: the morning drive starts in the dark and can be cold, so carry a shawl or light jacket even in warm months.
- Safari vehicles have hard seats and bumpy tracks. Bring a small cushion and sit towards the front or near a window if you are prone to motion sickness.
- Irpu Falls involves steps and a forest path that is slippery when wet. Older visitors can stop at the lower viewpoints and the temple.
- Confirm booking, timing and vehicle type with the Forest Department before you travel; safaris can be cancelled at short notice in bad weather.
- Stay overnight rather than doing a 10-hour round trip from Bengaluru. Travel in daylight, as elephants cross roads near the forest.
- Carry regular medicines, water and snacks; facilities near the gates are limited.
