Plan 01
1 day in Namchi
- 01
Day 1: Two hilltops and a monastery
Start at Samdruptse in the morning, when the air is clearest, and walk up to the Padmasambhava statue slowly. On the way back stop at Ngadak Monastery for a short visit. After lunch and a rest, drive to Siddhesvara Dham on Solophok hill and time your arrival for the late afternoon so you can finish the circuit before the evening aarti. Stop at the Rose Garden if it is open and the light is still good.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Ngadak Monastery 20 to 30 minutes Easy Morning or early afternoon; dry months Siddhesvara Dham (Char Dham) 1.5 to 2 hours Moderate Late afternoon for the evening aarti; March to May and October to November for clearer air Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.
With parents at Siddhesvara Dham (Char Dham): Parking is close to the gate, but the circuit involves steps, ramps and open paths with little shade, and the hilltop is often cold and windy. Take it slowly, use the handrails and rest between shrines.

Guides for the stops on these routes
Pacing
Pacing a Namchi trip for parents and children
- Do Samdruptse and Siddhesvara Dham on separate half-days. Both are open hilltops with steps and little shade, and the weather changes quickly.
- Carry a warm layer even in spring: the Char Dham hilltop is often cloudy and chilly when the town below is mild.
- Hire a local taxi for the day rather than relying on shared jeeps; parking at the main sights is close to the entrances.
- Footwear matters. Several temple areas need you to remove shoes, so wear socks and slip-on shoes you can manage easily.
- In the monsoon, check road conditions before you set out. Landslides can delay journeys on the Siliguri and Gangtok roads by hours.
- Choose a hotel with lift or ground-floor access if stairs are a problem; many small hill hotels do not have lifts.
