Navegaon-Nagzira with elderly parents: what to know

- Expect long drives on narrow rural roads; break the journey and avoid night driving.
- Carry water, snacks and any medicines, as there are almost no facilities inside.
- Skip the watchtower stairs if the climb is hard; vehicle viewing is enough.

- Gothangaon Tibetan Settlement (Places to visit · 1-2 hours) — Visits are mostly on level ground, but the approach road has been reported as an unpaved murram track, which can be dusty or muddy.
- Itiadoh Dam (Places to visit · 1 hour) — The visit is mostly a roadside viewpoint with a short walk. Surfaces can be uneven and shade is limited.
- Navegaon National Park (Places to visit · Half a day) — Most of the visit is by vehicle, with short walks to the lake edge and watchtowers. Tower stairs are steep with little seating, so older visitors may prefer to watch from the ground. There is almost no shade in summer.
- Nawegaon Wildlife Sanctuary (Places to visit · Part of a safari morning) — Access is by safari vehicle, so there is little walking. Rough forest tracks can be bumpy for people with back or hip problems, and there are no facilities in the forest.

- Koka Wildlife Sanctuary (Places to visit · Half a day) — Roads to the sanctuary are rural, and facilities are basic. There is little shade or seating once you are inside, so older travellers should keep to a vehicle visit.
- Nagzira Wildlife Sanctuary (Places to visit · Full day) — Safari vehicles do most of the work, but the drive in is long on narrow rural roads, and the jeeps are high and bumpy. There are watchtowers and a small museum at the tourist complex; seating is limited.
- New Nagzira Wildlife Sanctuary (Places to visit · Part of a safari day) — Vehicle access only, on rough forest tracks with no shade or facilities. The long road approach is tiring in summer.
Lots of walking or steps — choose carefully (1)
- Pratapgad Fort (Gondia) (Places to visit · About 4 hours round trip) — This is not suitable for most older travellers. The climb to the citadel takes roughly two and a half hours, with uneven forest trail and no water or seating.

- Facilities. There are almost no shops inside the forest; carry water and food.
- Dress. Wear muted colours, closed shoes and a hat; carry a light layer for cold winter mornings.
- Photography. Bring a zoom lens or binoculars; check the rules for cameras at your gate.
- Monsoon. Core zones usually pause in the monsoon; check the portal before travelling.
