Plan 01
1 day in Tadoba
- 01
Day 1: One safari and the lake edge
A single day only works if you are already based near a gate. Book one morning drive in the Moharli zone through the official portal, be at the gate before it opens and expect to be out for several hours. Return to your lodge for lunch and a proper rest through the heat. In the late afternoon, if you have a booking, take a shorter evening drive in a buffer zone, or simply walk the village lanes near the gate and look at the lake edges outside the park for birds. Do not plan an onward flight from Nagpur on the same day.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Moharli Zone One safari round of several hours, morning or evening Easy November to February for comfort; March to June for tigers near water, though it is hot Pace: All the stops today are easy on the legs.
Plan 02
2 days in Tadoba
- 01
Day 1: Arrival and an evening drive
Drive from Nagpur or Chandrapur, aiming to reach your lodge by early afternoon. Rest, then take an evening safari in a buffer zone near your gate, which is shorter and gentler than a morning drive. Dinner and an early night.
- 02
Day 2: Core-zone morning
Take a dawn drive in the Moharli or Kolara core zone, with a packed breakfast at the designated rest point if your zone has one. Be back for a late lunch and rest. If time allows before leaving, stop at the Mahakali temple or Chandrapur Fort on the way back to the railhead.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Chandrapur Fort One to two hours Moderate Morning or late afternoon, outside the hot months Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.
With parents at Chandrapur Fort: Mostly level around the gates, but walking along the walls can be uneven and there is little shade or seating. Go early or late and bring water.
Plan 03
3 days in Tadoba
- 01
Day 1: Arrive and settle
Drive from Nagpur, checking in by early afternoon. Walk the village or lodge grounds, confirm safari bookings, and have an early night before a dawn start.
- 02
Day 2: Two zones in a day, or one done well
Take a morning drive in your first core zone, such as Moharli. Rest through midday. If energy allows, take an evening drive in a buffer zone on a different side of the reserve, for a different landscape and fewer vehicles.
- 03
Day 3: Second core zone and Chandrapur
Take a second morning drive in a different zone, such as Kolara or Navegaon, to improve your odds and see another landscape. Leave after lunch and break the journey in Chandrapur to see the Mahakali temple and the Gond fort gates before the railhead or the road to Nagpur.

Pacing
Pacing a Tadoba trip for parents and children
- Ask your lodge about the vehicle: open jeeps are bumpy and the seats are high, so request a seat near the front, a cushion and a hand-hold, and tell your driver about any back or knee problems.
- Winter mornings are cold in an open jeep, often in single digits to low teens Celsius at dawn in December and January. Bring a warm jacket, a woollen cap, gloves and a blanket even if the afternoon is pleasant.
- From April to June the heat is severe; at Chandrapur the mean daily high in May is above 43 degrees Celsius. If older travellers are in the group, choose evening drives, carry plenty of water and a hat, and rest through midday.
- Plan only one safari a day if energy is limited. A morning drive is several hours; two rounds in a day is tiring, especially in summer, and the schedule does not allow flexibility.
- The road from Nagpur takes a few hours. Break the journey, carry regular medication in hand luggage, and ask your lodge where the nearest hospital is before you arrive; Chandrapur is the nearest large town.
- Toilet stops inside the reserve are limited to designated rest points. Use facilities at the gate before you enter, and wear shoes you can walk in on uneven ground.
