Area by area

Tadoba neighbourhoods compared

  1. 01

    Moharli side

Best for: First-time visitors who want the Moharli and Khutwanda core zones and the widest choice of lodges

Good to know: Moharli is the busiest and best-known gate, with many resorts and homestays in and around the village and a government-run MTDC resort nearby. It is the most convenient base but the busiest in peak winter weeks. Confirm which gate your lodge's safaris are booked through.

  2. 02

    Kolara side

Best for: Travellers who want the Kolara core zone and a quieter, more rural feel

Good to know: Kolara is a core gate with its own set of lodges, and guides quote it as somewhat closer to Nagpur than Moharli. Journey times differ by route, so check the road route and how far the lodge is from the gate.

  3. 03

    Navegaon side

Best for: Visitors who want open meadows and birdlife

Good to know: Navegaon is a core gate on its own side of the reserve, with a handful of lodges around it. Journey times from Nagpur are a few hours; check the distance for your lodge. Fewer large lodges mean you should check the standard of what is on offer.

  4. 04

    Pangdi and Zari (Kolsa) side

Best for: Travellers who want a remote, quieter southern section of the reserve

Good to know: The Kolsa range is entered at the Pangdi and Zari gates and is the least developed side, with fewer lodges and longer transfers. Best for repeat visitors, and worth confirming transfer times and meals before you book.

Before you book

What to check when booking for older travellers

  • Ask for a lift, or a ground-floor room — many heritage hotels have steps and no lift.
  • Check how far the hotel is from the sights you care about, in minutes by road, not kilometres.
  • Prefer free cancellation until close to the date, in case plans or health change.
  • Look for 24-hour reception, in-house dining and a doctor-on-call policy.
  • Read recent reviews for noise — old-city streets and wedding venues can be loud late.
