Day 1: Dawar in a day (only for hardy visitors)
A one-day round trip from Srinagar is possible in principle but leaves little time in the valley after a long drive each way, so we advise against it. If you must, leave Srinagar at first light, stop briefly at Razdan Pass, reach Dawar by early afternoon, see the Habba Khatoon peak and the Kishanganga bank, and start back before dusk because the descent is slow in poor light.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Dawar Half a day for a walk, with an overnight stay Easy July to September Razdan Pass 15–30 minutes at the summit Easy Mid-morning on a clear day, July to September Habba Khatoon Peak 1–3 hours for views and the spring Easy Late afternoon to sunset; July to September for road access Pace: All the stops today are easy on the legs.

Day 1: Srinagar to Dawar
Leave Srinagar early and drive via Bandipora, with a pause to view Wular Lake. Climb through forest past Tragbal to Razdan Pass, then descend into the valley. Check in at Dawar, rest to adjust to the altitude, and walk by the Kishanganga in the late afternoon with the pyramid peak above you.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Dawar Half a day for a walk, with an overnight stay Easy July to September Wular Lake 1–2 hours Easy Clear days; spring to autumn Razdan Pass 15–30 minutes at the summit Easy Mid-morning on a clear day, July to September Pace: All the stops today are easy on the legs.

Day 2: Dawar and back
Spend the morning at Shinon Meeras, the Shina cultural centre, and the spring and meadows near the foot of Habba Khatoon peak. Eat lunch in Dawar and set off for Srinagar by early afternoon to be across the pass in daylight.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Dawar Half a day for a walk, with an overnight stay Easy July to September Shinon Meeras (Shina Cultural Centre) 1–1.5 hours Easy Any time of day; good in cool or wet weather Habba Khatoon Peak 1–3 hours for views and the spring Easy Late afternoon to sunset; July to September for road access Pace: All the stops today are easy on the legs.

Day 1: Over the pass to Dawar
Drive from Srinagar via Bandipora, Tragbal and Razdan Pass. Settle in at Dawar and keep the afternoon light: a short riverside walk, tea and an early night.

Day 2: The valley around Dawar
Visit Shinon Meeras in the morning, then the Dard-Shin heritage collection in the village if it is open. In the afternoon go to the foot of Habba Khatoon peak, and spend the golden hour by the river. If current rules and permissions allow, a day trip east towards the Tulail valley is possible, but access changes and the road is rough.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Dawar Half a day for a walk, with an overnight stay Easy July to September Shinon Meeras (Shina Cultural Centre) 1–1.5 hours Easy Any time of day; good in cool or wet weather Habba Khatoon Peak 1–3 hours for views and the spring Easy Late afternoon to sunset; July to September for road access Tulail Valley Full day from Dawar Moderate July to September, with a local driver Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.
With parents at Tulail Valley: The road is rough and long, with limited facilities along it, so it is tiring for older or less mobile travellers. Altitude and cold add strain. Consider the valley around Dawar instead if energy is limited.

Day 3: Return over Razdan Pass
Start early and stop at the pass for the Peer Baba shrine and the long view towards Harmukh. Break the descent at Tragbal for tea, and consider a stop at Wular Lake near Bandipora before Srinagar.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Razdan Pass 15–30 minutes at the summit Easy Mid-morning on a clear day, July to September Wular Lake 1–2 hours Easy Clear days; spring to autumn Pace: All the stops today are easy on the legs.

Pacing
Pacing a Gurez trip for parents and children
- Allow at least one night to settle in at Dawar. At roughly 2,400 to 2,600 m, and about 3,556 m at Razdan Pass, headaches and tiredness are possible; drink water and go slowly.
- Carry regular medicines for the whole trip plus a spare. Dawar has only basic health facilities, and serious cases normally go to Srinagar.
- Start the drive early, fill up with fuel in Bandipora and avoid crossing the pass in rain, fog or fading light.
- Pack warm layers even in July; evenings are cold and guesthouse heating can be basic.
- Carry cash and download offline maps. Mobile networks and ATMs are unreliable beyond the pass.
- Choose a ground-floor room if stairs are an issue, and confirm hot water and power backup before booking.
