Start early at Klong Plu waterfall, return to Klong Prao Beach for lunch and rest, then walk White Sand Beach for sunset.

White Sand Beach (Hat Sai Khao)Half a day, or a whole stayEasyLate afternoon for sunset; November to February for calmer seas

Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.

With parents at Klong Plu Waterfall: The trail is a short forest walk over roots, rocks and wet stone, with no handrails in places. Older travellers should go slowly and may want to stop at the lower viewpoints. Avoid it after rain.

Pacing

Pacing a Koh Chang trip for parents and children

  • Choose a resort with ground-floor rooms or a lift; many Koh Chang hotels are on slopes with steps.
  • The coast road has steep hills and sharp bends. Use a hotel transfer or hired car with driver rather than a rented scooter.
  • Travel between November and February, when seas are calmer and trails are drier; boats and some guesthouses may stop in the rainy season.
  • Waterfall trails are uneven and slippery. Skip them after heavy rain or if mobility is limited.
  • Carry travel insurance that covers medical care and evacuation; ask your hotel for the nearest clinic and confirm hospital options on the mainland before you go.
  • Songthaews are the only public transport and thin out after dark. Arrange return rides for dinner.
