Area by area

Koh Chang neighbourhoods compared

  1. 01

    White Sand Beach

Best for: First-timers who want restaurants, shops and a short ride from the ferry

Good to know: The busiest beach on the island. Convenient, but evenings can be noisy and the southern end is rocky.

Sights in this area: Klong Prao Beach

  2. 02

    Klong Prao

Best for: Quiet family stays and access to Klong Plu waterfall

Good to know: A long, calmer beach with larger resorts set back from the shore. Fewer independent restaurants, so plan evening transport.

Sights in this area: Kai Bae Beach, Klong Plu Waterfall, White Sand Beach (Hat Sai Khao)

  3. 03

    Kai Bae

Best for: Mixed-age groups wanting a small bay with a short walking street

Good to know: Smaller and calmer than White Sand Beach, with views of offshore islets. Some hotels are on slopes.

  4. 04

    Bang Bao

Best for: Travellers who want a harbour setting and easy island boats

Good to know: A working fishing harbour with a long pier. Few swimming beaches, but handy for boat trips.

Sights in this area: Klong Kloi Beach

Before you book

What to check when booking for older travellers

  • Ask for a lift, or a ground-floor room — many heritage hotels have steps and no lift.
  • Check how far the hotel is from the sights you care about, in minutes by road, not kilometres.
  • Prefer free cancellation until close to the date, in case plans or health change.
  • Look for 24-hour reception, in-house dining and a doctor-on-call policy.
  • Read recent reviews for noise — old-city streets and wedding venues can be loud late.
